A Busy Saturday

This Saturday, 3rd October, brings a cornucopia of entertainment down The Lane. Our match in Vanarama National League South at home to Hemel Hempstead is our first Community Funday of the season and, as always, we are very grateful for the support in arranging this ever-popular event to the Met Police Safer Neighbourhoods Team and to Smith & Byford. Events on the main pitch will start at 1.00, including the traditional penalty-kick competition, before the Sutton & Hemel Hemsptead sides take centre stage.

After the main match the focus switches to the famous Sutton names of the past as Tony Rains’ Coventry Legends side takes on the Micky Joyce Select XI for the Tache Trophy, in memory of John Rains. This year’s game will be played in support of St Raphael’s Hospice.

The Legends’ squad includes:- Trevor Roffey, Danny Brooker, Nigel Golley, Vernon Pratt, Graham Morris, Steve Fowler, Dave Shepherd, Micky Stephens, Phil Dawson, Danny Bolt, Dave Jones, Paul Rogers, Matt Fowler, Matt Hanlan and Gavin Fraser.

Their opponents will feature Matt Rains, Ricky Kidd, Clive Offer, Martin Clark, Richard Pape, Bobby Green, Steve Rogers, Ryan Palmer, Nko Ekoku,Efan Ekoku, Paul Thornton, Bob Mapleson, Eddie Akuamoah and Ian Estall.

This veterans’ game will kick-off at 6.00pm, admission is free and the players would love to see you there to support them as much as we will all enjoy watching them in action again.

The club bars will be open from midday, with hot food available before and during the main match, and the Premiership game between Crystal Palace and West Bromwich Albion will be live on BT Sport from 12.45.

To round off a busy but exciting day, why not join the players watching the fabulous Bootleg Bee Gees at the Boom Boom Club?
